There's a First Time for Everything

Hello ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls; blog readers of every type and description...and how is everyone? The crowd is so large that I can barely make out the faces..oh, you ma'am, did you have a question? Who am I? Well! Just when I thought I needed no introduction, someone jolts me with a dose of reality! I am Wayne and Lorainne's youngest boy; Joy's husband; Rachel and Christina's daddy; friend to many; enemy of few.. What?... TMI?... Well, I never!

What am I trying to accomplish with this blog? Well, okay, let me explain: It seems that since I arrived on this planet I have wanted to communicate with others. I dream of writing in a way that might touch you, remind you of the things that really matter, re-focus you on the beauty that surrounds you even if you are living in a not-so-pretty place right now. I believe that most of us are positive creatures, looking for a chance to increase our happiness and believing that beauty is the reward of those who diligently seek it.

So, I will attempt to inspire and entertain you with the words I contribute to this blog. I will share bits of my life, pictures of sights that I have been blessed to see; songs that I have written, stories of my life that have shaped me; in the hope that they might in some small way re-shape your attitude toward the positive rather than the negative side of life.

Credentials?...Well, I haven't much formal education if that's what you mean. Shoot, I didn't even take any college courses until after I was 50 years old for crying out loud! What I do have is experiences and guiding values. I have always believed that honesty and dependability are qualities that everyone should have. When my beautiful bride and I exchanged our vows 35 years ago, we both meant every word, and we have made it through many marital storms because of our mutual commitment to fidelity. I believe in God, and claim that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Nevertheless, I struggle from time to time with doubt. I don't claim to be a perfect person; matter of fact, I have noted hypocrisy in my life on more than one occasion. Still, I aspire to be better tomorrow than I am today, and you might note some of that struggle toward improvement as you read on.

Growing up on a farm formed the foundations of my beliefs and values. That's where I came from, and that's where my heart is still. I have been gainfully employed from the time I was 5 years old and milked my first cow by hand. Since then I have farmed, worked in construction, been an auctioneer, salesman, entertainer, and now, railroader. I intend to write a little about each of those occupations and lessons I have learned from them.

I may not post every day; perhaps not even every week. But when I do post, I will try to make it worth your time to read. So, as we say on the railroad, "here we go!"
